Vertex

|
A week or so ago Husband and I were strolling through downtown Rapid City after a long day at the lake. I feel as though I don’t need to say this, but we were, of course, looking for a drink 🙂
We had happened upon an article some weeks prior talking about the awesome rooftop bar called Vertex located downtown in the historic Alex Johnson hotel. In researching, it looked swanky, totally big city-esque, and offered a pretty awesome view of the city. We couldn’t wait to try it out.
Only, after asking the front desk clerks how to access said bar, we were told unless we were guests staying at the hotel, we wouldn’t be sipping cocktails at Rapid City’s only sky bar without first paying a $250+ membership fee.
We said, uh heck no!
However, our awesome trail running buddy we met on Saturday, just so happened to be checking into the Alex Johnson that very next day, and so graciously invited us up for a drink.
The city views were pretty spectacular.

The drink prices were not.

And maybe we have been spoiled by the nicer bars we were used to in Charlotte (that didn’t require an expensive membership), or the rooftop treats we enjoyed when Husband lived in New York, but we just didn’t see the cause for such a prestigious cost.
Nevertheless we drank a few beers…

snapped a few pictures…

enjoyed the company…

then headed to Wobbly Bobby’s for a brew, and for the last stop of the night, Manchego for some tapas and wine.

It was Sunday night so things didn’t get too rowdy. A round of cheese, cured meats, anchovy pizza (YUM!), and a lamb chop or two (oh and two bottles of wine), we finally turned in for the night and said adieu to the weekend.
