I shared a reel yesterday of a slat wall, well a slat hallway really, that was mind blowing, and it got m thinking about the laundry room wall. Originally my plan was to have a vertical shiplap accent wall, but I can’t help but wonder if shiplap is played out, even in the vertical form, and if I should consider another option for a wall treatment. I’ve had a fluted wall in mind as a possibility, then I saw a wide shiplap option that caught my attention. All this to say I still haven’t made up my mind!

I built this DIY barn door back before slats were really a thing. I just loved the modern take on a barn door. It’s one of the most commented on pieces in our home, and although there are mixed feelings on whether barn doors are in or out, I couldn’t love the impact this one has in our room more.

I’m breaking down the pros and cons of each, and helping you understand when to choose one versus the other. I think some people have a stigma against MDF, but I believe it might be misplaced! In some projects nothing happens easily. So far this laundry room remodel has been full of problem solving challenges. Including how to hang these upper cabinets securely, because I have no studs where I need them. But yesterday I got one hung, and I’m going to have to cut into drywall to be able to secure the other. Only to later realize that the spacing just isn’t working so now I’ve got some trim work problem solving to do. Follow along in stories to see what I’ve come up with! These obstacles are frustratingly, but I love a good challenge!

Making progress! There’s beauty in the process always. Today I got the slide out trays in, the hole cut for the plumbing, and got my base cabinet in the laundry room. But the biggest win of all is that NOT ONLY can I fit the dog food bin in perfectly, there is still plenty of room for the second tray and the undermount sink. Hallelujah!!!

Next up is the countertop!

I thought it might be a good time to reintroduce myself. Hi I’m Lauren. Accidental house flipper, DIYer, mama of two and wife to my college sweetheart. I’ve found my passion through a mission to help myself, and others learn how to achieve a high end lifestyle on a real life budget.

Over the past year I’ve done a lot of trial and error, and plenty of googling to learn how to do the projects I was tired of waiting on others to do. My hope is to educate and empower you to do the same!

Here you will find home renovations, DIY projects large and small, furniture refinishing, and a good dose of life. I aim to keep it real, sharing the mistakes, challenges, and the joy along the way.

REVEAL!!! The biggest perk of DIY is saving money while still getting exactly what you want. In this case a real frame TV wasn’t in the budget so I built a frame, downloaded an art app to our fire stick, and voilà! Now our TV doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb in our newly refreshed bedroom. It’s a literal work of art, fitting with its surroundings.
