One Room Challenge Week 2: Bedding
Even though we were gifted the bed frame and headboard by my late Grandmother in law, we still had to pin down a new mattress and bedding.I knew I wanted her to have white or ivory bedding and to use the throw pillows to bring in some of the colors from the design color palette. I also knew I wanted velvet in there somewhere.
I landed on the idea of a white duvet, with a fun twist which ended up being pom poms. I normally don’t love duvet covers but I will say this one has been a hit. It’s a beautiful linen feel fabric and has ties in all of the corners to help keep the insert in place. I read tons of reviews on Amazon before deciding on the insert we ended up purchasing, and we have not been disappointed. It’s a down alternative, but still has the slightly heavy feel that I love in good bedding. It has loops to tie to the duvet corners, and it’s light enough for year round use, but keeps our girl warm. The reviews did not lie! (Sources at the end of the post!)
For the throw pillows I couldn’t get the idea of a dusty rose velvet out of my mind so when I found these beautiful covers on Amazon I knew they were the ones.
The pink ones fit our Ikea inserts perfectly, and I happened to have a small lumber pillow that I was able to squish into the taupe pillow cover.
My hope is that this room will appeal to a five year olds sense of whimsy and fun, but also be something that can transition into a more mature room when she decides whimsy isn’t so cool anymore.
Now let’s talk about the mattress. We decided years ago when we first switched our girls to big girl beds that we were going to invest in comfortable mattresses, anticipating that we ourselves might end up sleeping in them here and there. We are big fans of memory foam mattresses and have great luck with the super affordable options on Amazon! We had box spring that came with the bed frame from my Grandmother in law, so all we needed was the mattress itself. This brand offers many sizes as far as the depth of the memory foam, but we have ordered the 8 inch three times now and felt like it was perfectly sufficient.
Her bed is so comfy and cozy and we’re thrilled to have found a way to give it to her on a very affordable budget!

Thank you Brianna! I feel like her room is always changing, mainly because until now I just didn’t have a solid vision for it. But I’m excited to finally get it all pulled together!
