Lu’s Visit & Winter Park

|
Just when you thought I fell off the face of the earth again…I’m back with another tale.
While I was gone, my best friend Lu and her hubs flew all the way from good ol’ NC to pay us a visit.
After checking out the normal tourist spots, and a quick run through Deadwood and Spearfish, we loaded up our bags and hit the road to Winter Park, Colorado.
Our friend Rebecca co-owns a bar there called Ullrs, so in addition to wanting to see her, and ski a bit in some of the best snow there is, it also happened to be St. Patrick’s Day weekend…and she owns a bar…do you see where I’m going with this?
We had the option of downhill skiing at the resort, or we could go cross country skiing through a local trail. Husband and I were dying to try out the cross country skiing as it was all new to us.

Igloos

It turned out to be my new favorite snow activity. It’s like ice skating through hiking trails.

Along the way it started to snow and it was just magical. Big fluffy flake were falling, a bristling stream flowed beside the trail, and it was just so quiet and peaceful. Pure wintery heaven!

That night we strolled through the downtown area.
Grabbed a green beer and some dinner.
Then partied it up at Ullrs to the tunes of Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band. The last time I saw them in concert they were playing Bele Chere, which is an annual downtown festival in Asheville.

The next morning we got up and downed some breakfast before getting on our way. A snow storm decided to dump on us before we could leave which made for a slow ride out of town.
Lucky us, it wasn’t the only one to catch us. In our 7.5 hour drive we navigated through two snow storms and wind so strong it knocked a tractor trailer over on the interstate.
Needless to say, the house never looked so good.
But now we can check off yet another place in Colorado. We may just be in love with that state 🙂
