Finally Mexico

Moving week has finally come to an end.  We are mere pieces away from being settled and thankfully we’ve got one more week to deal with the last few touches before I start my new job.  It’s been a week since we left Mexico but the vacation withdrawals have hardly ended.  We are still having difficulty dealing with having to cook our own food and make our own drinks again 🙂  So Moving Week is being replaced with Mexico Week…

We visited the Excellence Playa Mujeres for our honeymoon and absolutely fell in love with hotel.  The following year we researched a million other vacations but we decided if it wasn’t broke why fix it, and returned to Mexico and tried out the Excellence Riviera Maya…and fell in love again.  This year Cliz was able to travel with us for vacation and still smitten with all things Excellence we couldn’t wait to take them there.

Our flight left at 6:00 AM which meant we had to be at the airport by 4:00, which meant we had to leave our house by 3:30, which meant we had to wake up at 2:30.  Running on about three hours of sleep we planed, trained and automobiled our way to the hotel.

Needless to say we were exhausted!

We drank a few glasses of the greeting complimentary champagne, ate lunch and a little while later finally got into our rooms.  Husband was adamant about upgrading our room after being upgraded for free the previous year to a swim up suite and enjoying it profusely.  So we indulged (which became the theme of the week).

In the evenings after our daily nap and pot of coffee (with cookies) we would meet at the Martini bar for a cocktail before dinner.  The guys sipped on nice tequila on the rocks and Liz and I discovered the Champagne Cocktails (champagne, brandy, bitters and sugar) which we stuck to every night for the rest of the week.

The food is incredible!
Such a beautiful place

We also discovered Sangritas.  Basically a slightly sweet bloody mary chaser for tequila.  It was the only way I could stomach tequila, although I still switched to vodka later on.  Towards the end of our trip we had one of the waitresses give us a step by step lesson on making the perfect sangrita, I have a feeling these will show up at our house sometime in the near future.

I was so excited about my anniversary/graduation/BAR being over present for Husband that I didn’t even make it past the first day before I gave it to him.
It was a custom hand carved meershaum pipe made to look like Jim.

Happy Husband 🙂
